2526 J Street

Built 1910 by Rowe and Acorn and design by Myron Hunt and Elmer Gray, Los Angeles. This two-and-a-half-story Craftsman could more accurately be named the Hamilton house for the builder, The house was originally on a lot three-quarters of a block from the shingle house to the north (2424 J). The architects Hunt and Gray were internationally known for having designed the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. Notable characteristics of this residence include an overhanging upper story and exposed rafter ends in the eaves. The house was originally covered with dark stained shingles, but, like many similar houses in Eureka, it has been painted white in recent years.
