2400 H street

This impressive residence is an eye catching sight on one of the main streets of Eureka. This one-story stucco home was built in 1940 and epitomizes the Streamline Moderne style which had become quite popular in California. This architectural style has a generally horizontal appearance which is accentuated by rounded corners, rounded windows, and horizontal ornamentation. Also typical of this style are corners and other parts which may have glass bricks, as can be seen on the right hand corner of this apartment complex. In addition, flat ironwork and flat roofs further emphasize the horizontal style of the Streamline Moderne home. This residence was designed by Dr. Samuel P. Burre and originally owned by M. Newton.
