1406 C Street

Built 1888 by Fred B. Butterfield. This lovely one-and-a-half story Eastlake cottage was built for local real estate developer and politician William S. Clark. The house is currently being used as an Inn decorated in a lavish Victorian style. The structure itself is one of the finest in Eureka. It has an elaborately decorated entrance porch, both square and angled bay windows, porch spindles, and roof gables. A wonderful profusion of Eastlake ornamentation covers the gables, windows, frieze, and porch. This building is a National Historic Landmark, and the attached historic nomination form contains several pages of in-depth description of both the exterior and interior of the home.
