135 West Fifth Street

Constructed on Highway 101, this Streamline Moderne Building, originally a drive-in, reflected the peculiarly American fascination with the automobile and the rise of advanced technology-some of which was employed to cantilever the circular slab roof. The expansive upright rectangular slab rose above the roof to serve as a billboard to catch the attention of passerby. The structure was removed in the intervening years, but the business, Roy’s Auto Center, remains.
