215 C Street

Square in plan, stucco-sided with streamline decorative treatment and original sign lettering, the main building of this multi-structured complex is a two-story structure built in the late Moderne Style. This structure was originally constructed to serve the needs of the Mendenhall transportation company and two loading bays for large buses can still be made out in the site’s layout, although the site underwent a renovation in 2015-17 and is now broken up into smaller studios for artists.

This complex of buildings remains basically intact from the exterioir, auxiliary structures having board and batten interior and asphalt siding on street-facing exteriors. Photographs dated 1955 show a complex of apparently recent construction featuring materials, elements, form and setting typical of an early-century commercial structure.
