220 Hillsdale Street

Built 1893. Once identical to 1006 Second Street, which was altered after a fire, this home is a finely detailed Queen Anne/Eastlake residence. The prominent gable end on the front elevation is filled by a framed panel embellished with carved circular motifs. A continuous tendril frieze wraps around the house. Heavily carved panels appear between the stained glass upper bay windows. The formality and containment of the ornament is most apparent in the porch design, where framework confines the spindlework and other carved foliate decoration in the multi-arched porch.
