Built in 1885 by J. Simpson. The architects were Samuel and Joseph Cather Newsom of San Francisco, and this house was featured in their book Picturesque California Homes, published in 1884. In a lumber town with easy access to milled decoration, it is not unusual to see a residence such as this. Essentially Stick style in character, it has been transformed into an Eastlake confection by the extensive use of pattered shingles, elaborate brackets with drop pendants, king beam spindle molding in the gable, and various other cut-outs and turned ornamentation, all intact and in good condition.
