Built ca. 1884. Here is an Early Queen Anne of fortunate siting. This house attempted ambitiously to match the rival next door; both are part of a very fine street scape. This one-story cottage competes successfully with its vast two-story neighbor through the elaboration of pedimental motifs, and a kind of restraint of placement of ornamentation. Clapboard siding is carefully grooved, to suggest more expensive narrow-gauge patterns. The plain shingled eaves pediments rise monumentally above a stringcourse, becoming scrollwork on bay windows. Other scrollwork, eaves brackets, barge boards and lattice work complicate the image into one of charming domesticity. Unfortunately, but not unredeemably, some side windows and the entry door have been altered but the basic form of the original design externally remains intact.
