Built in 1929 it is difficult to characterize stylistically the First Christian Church. Designed by Franklin Georgeson in a Craftsman style that relates to the Gothic Revival. Wood and shingles cover the exterior and a vertical emphasis is given by the prominent square tower and the use of the colossal piers on the front elevation. All windows are multipaned. The vague way of handling modernistic motifs in a Gothic tradition has given this church “buttresses” of a purely visual ascent and strength, repeated at several scales. Tower and wing are nicely integrated into mass and clapboard successfully scaled to add height. Georgeson also designed a similar church in Arcata.
