261 Hillsdale Street

Built 1890. Considered unique when constructed by owner/designer A.A. Redmond, this remarkable Queen Anne house has unusually steep gable ends. The roof of the centered gable on the front extends on either side to the first floor, where it forms the roof for an arched entrance on one side and an arched window on the other. The bargeboards are decorated and the gable ends are paneled.  Stick was a style contemporaneous with Eastlake and in the eastern United States, Stick houses would often have a border nailed to the outside reflecting the structural number inside. In this property that number is reflected on the gable.
